Leigh Podgorski is an accomplished writer with over 40 years of experience in crafting compelling narratives across plays, screenplays, novels, and non-fiction work. Her newest release is "Feathers of Wisdom," a project illuminating Indigenous women's myths and legends through words and art. In whatever genre Leigh writes, her work presents a strong commitment to cultural heritage and exploring metaphysical themes.
Feathers of Wisdom received the prestigious Literary Titan Gold Book Award for excellence in writing and preservation of culture.
Western Song, a novel created from her original eight-page play, received the Bronze Medal in the Reader’s Favorite Award.
Leigh’s stage plays have been produced in Los Angeles, New York City, and regionally. She had the privilege of interviewing Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross for her one-act play Windstorm, which was presented as part of the annual festival Celebrate Women that she also co-produced.
We Are Still Here, the story of Cahuilla Indian elder Katherine Siva Saubel, premiered at the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum as part of CelebrateWomen 2000. The play has been presented throughout Southern California at college campuses, universities, and Indian Reservations and Casinos. In 1999, We Are Still Here received a grant from the California Council for the Humanities to create a documentary of the same name. The documentary has been added to the National Museum of the American Indian, a branch of the Smithsonian Institution, and the Getty Collection.
In addition to her plays, Leigh has penned several original award-winning screenplays. Act of Grace, originally a play, won the Women in Film and Video Screenwriting Competition.
Her finalist script, Amara, in the prestigious Moondance International Film Festival and Screenplay Competition, is a psychological dramatic thriller set against a theatrical backdrop.
Between her success at Moondance (Amara), the Chesterfield Writer's Film Project, and Women in Film and Video (Act of Grace), Podgorski established a powerful trifecta of indie screenwriting accolades before redirecting her lyrical, highly structural narrative style toward publishing successful novels, fine-art volumes, and nonfiction.
Additionally, several of her monologues from plays and screenplays have been published through Meriwether Publishing, Ltd.
